Simpson Mediation
Thank you for your interest in an alternative way of dispute resolution.
My interest in mediation was sparked as a young girl. My family divorced and during this time, my parents turned to courtroom litigation, as most would, especially at that time. I always wondered if there was a more peaceful, relaxed, and efficient way to resolve issues.
When I was in college, I found out about mediation. I was captain of my college's mediation team. We spent our weekends going to national and international mediation tournaments, as we practiced the art of mediation. We traveled to many countries as a team and won internationally. We would mediate cases in front of judges and audiences. We won All-American awards and we also won internationally. This time in college helped me hone my skills in mediation, and I started to fall in love with it. So much so, that I wanted to become a certified mediator. I am grateful to have been coached by one of the most established mediators in the world, Richard Calkins. Calkins has done many mediations. Some sensitive such as the 900 cases for the Catholic Church involving rape and incest cases, to business cases between major US airlines. I feel grateful to have been under his training. As a mediator, it is important to be a peacemaker, and to leave the creative settlement to the parties.
Since then, I have mediated different cases from community disputes to business cases, to concerns on college sports teams. I have enjoyed teaching leadership camps tips on communication and problem solving, and I enjoyed teaching Syrian refugees conflict resolution skills with my team in Greece.
In this practice, we work to create the right space for this creative settlement. That could be in my office with a comfy couch and a coffee table, or in a conference room in a business-type of setting. The mediation is tailored to the case and to what the parties are most comfortable with.
My husband Brian is a certified mediator as well, and we often mediate together if a co-mediator is needed for the case.
Mediation can be a productive, and even healing process. Mediation is beneficial for business owners and families. I have seen first hand, the true power of proper mediation and communication. It has the ability to not only help relationships and various cases, but it helps on a personal level- to elevate and take that weight off our shoulders. It's not fun to carry that around, so let's handle it!
